Robert T. Gabor, Q.C., Chair
Appointed September 2016

Robert left the practice of law after 36 years to accept the position as chair of the Public Utilities Board. His practice covered the areas of administrative law to corporate-commercial and technology law, including intellectual property, cyber security and privacy law. During his tenure, he was one of the founders and general counsel to the Winnipeg Airports Authority and the Manitoba Technology Accelerator. He taught different courses for the Manitoba Bar Admission course, including as a lecturer and examiner in ethics for over 15 years. He sat on numerous committees of the Law Society of Manitoba including the Discipline Committee as well as on the board of many not-for-profit organizations. He currently sits on the International Board of Governors of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Board of Directors of the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University. He was appointed as a commissioner on the Royal Commission on Electoral Reform and Party Financing from 1990-92. Robert received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for community services in 2012.

Karen Botting, B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed., Vice-Chair

Former Director of Student Services for the Louis Riel School Division, this member also worked as a school principal in River East School Division; held positions as President of the Student Services Administrators of Manitoba and President of the River East Principals' Association. Former vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation on which she served 12 years. She has also served on many community boards including: United Nations Association of Winnipeg, UNICEF, as president of Woodsworth House Historical Society, founding member of the Nor'west Co-op Health and Social Service Centre, and current president of J.S. Chapter IODE. She received the YM-YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in 2012.

Hugh Grant, Ph.D. (Economics)
Appointed December 2013

Professor of Economics at the University of Winnipeg. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toronto. He has served as the President of the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association and is currently the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Carol Hainsworth, C.B.A.
Appointed June 2016

Carol recently retired from her position as the Regional Financial Officer-Administrator and a member of the Senior Management Team for Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship Central Region (Gimli), serving in that capacity since 1999. She served previously as a Branch Accountant for the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Winnipeg Branch. She is a shareholder and Director (Corporate Secretary) of A.C.G. Investments Ltd. which owns and operates Wildwood Park Tourist Resort. She is a community volunteer and a member of the Lakeside Lions Club.

Marilyn Kapitany, BSc. Honours, MSc.
Appointed July 2012

A former senior Federal Government executive responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada. Former Regional Director General of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (Manitoba) as well as Director of Industry Services at the Canadian Grain Commission.

Past Chair of the National Board of YM-YWCA of Canada and appointed as Canada's International Representative in 2014. Marilyn is a member of the Riverview Health Centre Board. Former Chair of the YM-YWCA of Winnipeg Board, and past member of Assiniboine Park Conservancy Board and Association of Professional Executives.

Shawn McCutcheon
Appointed September 2016

Shawn has owned and operated a commercial grain and special crops farm in the RM of Dufferin since 1975. He is currently President of McCutcheon Farms Ltd. He served 7 years as a trustee of the former Midland School Division, 6 of those years as chairperson and also served 8 years as the Reeve of the RM of Dufferin. He has been involved in numerous local and provincial organizations and currently sits on the Carman Community Health Centre Board and Boyne Care Development. Boyne Care is tasked with renewing senior care in Carman and surrounding communities with an emphasis on a new personal care home. Shawn received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service in 2012.

Sharon McKay
Appointed October 2016

Sharon lives in Thompson Manitoba and she has spent much of her adult life as a leader in Manitoba aboriginal organizations. She held a number of positions with Keewatin Tribal Council starting as an education counsellor and moving to Chief Executive Officer. She has also sat on a number of agencies, boards and commissions, including as Members of Manitoba Tribal Directors and Past Chairperson of Broadband Communications North Inc. (telecommunications for northern and remote communities). She is currently Executive Director of the Aboriginal Knowledge and Cultural Division of UCN.

Al Morin, B.A. (Econ), ICD.D
Appointed December 2013

Al recently retired as the President and CEO of the Assiniboine Credit Union after serving in that capacity since 1997. He is Chair of the Civil Service Superannuation Board and a member of the Board of Credit Union Central and the Premier's Economic Advisory Council. He has also served on the Boards of the North West Ethical Investments LP (Vice-Chair), Concentra Financial (Chair-Audit Committee), Red River Community College (Chair), The Ethical Funds Company (Chair). He is a member of The Associates - Asper School of Business, the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Credit Union Executive Society.

Susan Nemec, FCPA, FCA
Appointed July 2016

Susan is the president of A&F Nemec Recruitment. Prior to moving full time into the recruitment and placement of finance and accounting professionals, Susan held senior positions such as VP Finance and Systems of the Moffat Canadian Cable group, Corporate Controller of The City of Winnipeg and many years as a Senior Assurance Manager with a Big Four Public Accounting firm. Susan has held various volunteer positions including President of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, President of the Winnipeg Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI), National Board Member and Audit Committee Member of FEI; Vice Chair of the Board of the Health Sciences Centre and Chair of its Audit Committee, Treasurer of the Winnipeg Convention Centre and Manitoba Research Council. Susan currently sits on the Audit Committee of HEB Manitoba. In 2010, Susan was awarded her FCA (Fellowship) Designation which recognizes distinction in her career and ongoing service to the CPA/CA Profession and community.

The Hon. Anita Neville, P.C., B.A.(Hons.)
Appointed July 2012

Member of Parliament from 2000 to 2011, where she served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Heritage and Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women. Also a member of several parliamentary standing and special legislative committees including those focusing on community and corporate social responsibility, Aboriginal Affairs, Defence, Justice and Human Rights. Participated as a long serving member and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Winnipeg School Division. Employed with the Government of Manitoba as an Economic Development Consultant, Director of Workforce 2000, and Director of the Winnipeg Core Area initiative Employment and Training program. Served as a Lay Bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba as well as a member of several community boards and task forces.

Larry Ring, B.A., LLB QC
Appointed June 2016

A University of Manitoba graduate, Larry practiced law in Winnipeg and appeared in both the Civil and Criminal Courts. Larry was a partner of a law firm then known as Pollock Nurgitz Bromley Myers and Hewak. In 1977, he was appointed a Provincial Judge and in 1987, he was appointed Master and Registrar in Bankruptcy of the Court of Queen’s Bench. Now retired.

Rhéal Teffaine, Q.C.
Appointed October 2016

Rhéal is a distinguished Manitoba lawyer who has practised law for more than 50 years. He is active within a variety of community, cultural groups and charitable organizations including le Centre culturel franco-manitobain, le Cercle Moliere. St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, the Manitoba Health Services Commission the National Theatre School of Canada and the Manitoba Centennial Corporation. He is also a longstanding member of many legal organizations and served as the President of the Manitoba Bar Association in 1988. Rhéal has been a commentator on radio and television for Radio-Canada.
